About Me:
I make creative projects in various disciplines (words, paints, paper, glue, spoken word) and distribute them to people (both in atoms and bits).
Topics often include hemp cannabis (especially hemp culture in Japan), literature (classic modern American, European and Japanese writers), hockey (and winter sports in general) and travel (often static montages of bric and brac).
I make podcasts on the aforementioned topics:
“Postcards from Gravellly Beach” features me reading literary stalwarts - from Russians to beats - along with smatterings from original works, backed by an eclectic assortment of music.
”Choogle on with Uncleweed” is me on random sound-seeing adventures around Vancouver and Cascadia in general with occasional anecdotes and observations about transportation, economics, architecture, entrepreneurship and scoring herb.
I also make the ”Canucks Outsider” and am a frequent guest on ”Clubside Breakfast Time” podcast. All of the podcasts are listed in iTunes for your listening pleasure.
Besides literary works of free verse and fiction, I write about culture and social/political public policy and have an interest in law (intellectual property, international trade, drug testing, rehabilitative justice). See Uncleweed.Net for most all of my writings.
I've traveled to 14+ countries on 4 continents and worked in most of them ~ as a grape picker (Germany near Rhodt unter Reitburg), beach club host and underwater tour narrator (Guam, Micronesia), mushroom farmer (Saji, Tottori, Japan), fire juggler (Guam) and chestnut seller (again in Germany).
I also attended the Winter Olympics in SLC 2002 and published a photo diary of 23 events in 13 days and was a judge at the 2002 Cannabis cup in Amsterdam (yes, another photo diary).
I participated in the Clayoquot blockades (no, not arrested) which was a pivotal moment in my young life and crystallized my desire for constructive activism.
In 2004, I finally earned a B.A. degree from Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA (home of Rachael Corrie) after a 17 year process including stints at Utah Valley Community College, University of Utah, and University of Guam.
I was 'featured' in a High Times magazine article about Evergreen which stirred up a bit of controversy (right on). I've also published articles in Cannabis Culture, Heads and Journal of International Hemp Association and was also featured in The Olympian, Business Examiner and on a BBC World Radio broadcast.
I've brewed up numerous entrepreneurial activities and like to demonstrate balance betwixt art, commerce and sustainability. These qualities are evidenced in some cool hemp bags i made under the HempenWare brand, a documentary film called HempenRoad in 1996-97, and an Internet service provider called Zhonka Broadband.
I now work as a Marketing Evangelist (blogger and podcaster) at Raincity Studios and as Community Manager for BC's green directory happyfrog.ca (i blog there too).
Yup, i enjoy creating - consider enjoying.
